Fair share = village households × hall seats ÷ all households. Remainders are compared exactly, before rounding.
A SMALL PUZZLE, A BIG IDEA
The art of sharing
what won’t divide.
Chairs are whole. Fair shares usually aren’t. This is Hamilton’s largest-remainder method, turned into a pocket puzzle about a fictional village assembly.
Move one household at a time until the seat counts match the petition on every card. Any solution earns a ribbon; the shortest route earns a gold one. Nudges don’t affect ribbons.
Keyboard: 1–4 choose villages · Escape cancel · U undo · R reset · H nudge. Touch or click works everywhere. Progress stays on this device. Inspired by election day; this fictional exercise does not model current U.S. House rules.
